Level Design Project - Team Fortress 2
This environment was created over 3 months (9/2018 - 12/2018) for my Semester 7 Design Project class. My goal was to create an environment that felt at home within preexisting Team Fortress 2 content while bringing my own voice to the space. This project was an enormous risk and an enormous success, earning me the highest possible grade in Level Design excellence.
The game mode for this map is a single player version of a co-op game mode called Mann Versus Machine. Traditionally, a group of 6 unique players would choose from 1 of 9 classes to defend a base from a robot attack. In this environment, I designed everything around one player defending the base all by themselves.
For this project, a unique challenge I experienced was accommodating the older software that is required to make content of this variety. Through a detailed, multi-step process, I was able to achieve high frame-rates on a game that can normally dip below industry standards. By optimizing this game alongside the design process, I was able to achieve product performance that runs efficiently on older machines at a higher frame-rate that few other projects of similar scope can match.
